Ever since I can remember I have been around animals. I grew up with 3 dogs, a cat, a bird, a bunny, some fish, and 4 horses. I began my training career by working with horses. For five years, I trained them using positive reinforcement methods. When I moved to attend Kansas State University to work on a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, I couldn’t fit my horses in my apartment, so I adopted a 2 year old border collie from a local shelter. He is the reason I started to be more interested in training dogs. As a result, during my time at KSU, I also attended Animal Behavior College for their dog training program and fell in love with it.
While I was training horses I was most interested in working fearful or reactive horses that have been abused or traumatized. Working with dogs is no different. There is nothing I enjoy more than helping a fearful animal gain confidence and trust.
I started as an assistant with MuttSchool in December of 2014, but have advanced to an instructor after completing ABC and passing the CPDT-KA knowledge in dog training exam and the CPDT-KSA skills assessment. I am also an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen program and for Therapy Pets Unlimited.
