From an early age, Rebecca (Becci) found herself immersed into the world of dog training and dog sports. From summer evenings spent watching dogs work cattle to basic trick training for her own dogs, wherever Becci was, you could be certain that there was a dog in the near vicinity. Those early years helped to foster her interest in all things dog behavior, but particularly in sports and the resulting injuries and rehabilitation that often plagues working and competition dogs.
Since joining MuttSchool in the fall of 2014, Becci has demonstrated a commitment to furthering her knowledge of dog behavior and training methods through participation in continuing education and certification courses. Not only does she frequently utilize her knowledge of BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training), but in 2016 Becci also successfully completed a Defensive Handling course through IAABC (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants) to further expand on her skills for working with fearful, aggressive, and reactive dogs. She also serves as a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) evaluator and in 2017 she will complete the finishing step of her CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed) certification. Because of her interest in fitness and rehabilitation, Becci is also working to complete her Certified Canine Fitness Trainer certification under the prestigious Debbie Gross in an effort to help rehabilitate dogs recovering from injury or surgery, as well as to build overall strength and fitness in the average household companion.
In addition to her primary focus on fitness, Becci is also interested in the way that mental stimulation can help to reduce reactivity. She enjoys keepng her own dogs active and engaged through participation in agility, disc dog, tricks, rally, and nosework. Gypsy Rose, a working line cattle dog, is an accomplished disc dog who placed at her first competition in the fall of 2016. She also recently earned her Advanced Trick Dog (ATD) title. Renegade Outlaw, a young working-line border collie, has earned his AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certification, as well as his Intermediate Trick Dog (ITD) title. Becci strongly feels that an active dog is a happy and engaged dog, so she works to integrate sports, trick training, and fitness into the lives of her own dogs on a daily basis.
